Let’s be honest — we all rely on Google Search for everything. Whether it’s figuring out if we can microwave aluminum foil (don’t), finding a restaurant nearby, or doing last-minute research for work. But sometimes, Search just gives us… too much. Too many links. Too little clarity.
That’s where Google’s new updates come in — and honestly, they sound pretty helpful.
So, what’s new?
Google is rolling out Gemini 2.5 Pro and a feature called Deep Search inside what they call AI Mode. Right now, these are only for Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers, but let’s break down what that actually means for regular folks like us.
Gemini 2.5 Pro: A Smarter Brain Behind Search
If regular Google is like a really smart friend who gives you links, Gemini 2.5 Pro is like a super-researcher who reads all the links, compares them, and gives you a clean, well-organized summary — complete with citations.
Let’s say you’re planning to buy a house, and you want to understand home loan options, market trends, legal stuff — the works. Normally, you’d spend hours jumping between tabs. With Gemini 2.5 Pro in AI Mode, Google says it can do that heavy lifting for you in just minutes.
You ask a detailed question → It searches hundreds of sources → You get one thoughtful, well-reasoned answer.
Deep Search: For When You Need the Full Picture
Deep Search is like turning on “research mode.” It’s built for questions that go beyond “What’s the weather?” — the kind of stuff you might Google before writing a report, picking a university, or making a big life decision.
According to Google, it doesn’t just skim the surface. Deep Search looks for information that’s harder to find — the details buried deep in articles, blogs, or lesser-known sites — and puts it all together for you.
Right now, it’s rolling out in the U.S. for people who’ve opted into AI Mode in Google Labs, but the feature is expanding globally (including India) over time.
AI Can Now Make Calls For You (!)
This one surprised me.
Google is adding a feature where AI can actually call local businesses on your behalf — to ask about things like pricing or appointment availability. So if you Google “dog groomers near me,” you might see an option to “Have AI check pricing.” You click it, and boom — Google does the talking.
No awkward phone calls. No hold music. Just results.
It’s kind of like having a virtual assistant baked into Search. You still make the decision — but you don’t waste 20 minutes calling five places.
Right now, this is live in the U.S., and if you’re a Pro or Ultra subscriber, you’ll get more usage.
So, should you care?
If you’re someone who:
- Spends a lot of time Googling for work or study
- Gets overwhelmed by 20 open tabs
- Hates calling up businesses
- Loves the idea of getting one solid, well-researched answer…
…then yeah, this update is worth watching.
Even if you don’t subscribe to the AI Pro plan, it’s a glimpse into where Google is headed — and how Search is becoming more like a helpful partner than just a link directory.
For now, I’ll still be typing questions the old-school way. But knowing that a smarter, more thoughtful Google is on the way? That’s something I’m looking forward to.
